Milk Donation — Gulf Coast Location

The Mothers’ Milk Bank of Mississippi is a non-profit organization that collects, processes, and distributes donated breastmilk to provide nourishment to babies in need.

Milk donation involves a process to ensure the safety and health of the milk before it is given to babies in need. Here's a breakdown:

  1. Donating: Mothers are instructed on how to express and safely store milk.

  2. Receiving: The milk arrives frozen and is defrosted for processing.

  3. Preparation: Technicians follow strict sanitation protocols, blending milk to ensure uniformity.

  4. Pasteurization: Milk is pasteurized to eliminate bacteria while preserving nutrients.

  5. Testing: Each batch is tested for bacterial growth before being distributed.

  6. Distribution: Processed milk is delivered to NICUs for babies in need.

Milk banks follow strict guidelines to ensure quality and safety.
